Recently, Sinopec's Yanshan Petrochemical announced the launch of an environmentally friendly synthetic rubber specialty grade featuring low VOC and no phthalate plasticizers, specifically designed for rubber pet toy production. It meets the safety standards for pet product materials under the EU REACH regulation and U.S. FDA requirements. The eco-friendly synthetic rubber employs a novel production process, reducing volatile organic compound emissions by 70%, with safety far exceeding traditional synthetic rubber. It also boasts excellent bite resistance and tear resistance, suitable for manufacturing durable and interactive rubber pet toys.
With the continuous rise of the domestic pet economy, pet owners' demands for toy safety and durability have significantly increased. Traditional rubber, due to its strong odor and tendency to release harmful substances, can no longer meet the needs of the high-end market and export compliance. Yanshan Petrochemical's new product eliminates harmful additives such as phthalates at the source, making it less likely to release toxic substances during chewing, friction, and long-term use. This not only protects pets' oral health but also reduces owners' concerns about material safety. In 2024, domestic consumption of environmentally friendly synthetic rubber for pet supplies grew by 17.3% year-on-year, with 62% sourced from the Sinopec system, highlighting the leading position of major enterprises in the green materials sector.
Following the launch of this new product, it will further address the gap in the high-end environmentally friendly synthetic rubber market, alleviate the reliance of domestic pet toy manufacturers on imported premium raw materials, reduce supply chain costs, and help domestic rubber pet toys expand into overseas high-end markets such as the EU and North America with higher quality and stronger compliance. This will also drive the upgrading of Chinese manufacturing toward greener and higher-value-added production.
